Ovarian Cancer


September is ovarian cancer awareness month. According to the American Cancer Society it accounts for 4% of all cancers yet it is one of the most deadly because almost 70% of women are not diagnosed until the advanced stages. Increasing the knowledge about ovarian cancer is one way to make it less lethal. For more information consult the following websites:

  • Coalition started by a patient - the country's first comprehensive organization providing awareness and education about ovarian cancer
  • Excellent website with many well written resources
  • Info on clinical trials, breaking news and how to find a gynecologic oncologist

  • Sponsored by the gynecologic cancer foundation and formed by the informatics committee of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists

  • Information on their yearly advocacy conference
  • Organized by sections called newly diagnosed, general interest and survivors

  • National Canadian organization started by the spouse of a patient in 1999
  • Tool and suggestions on how to build awareness
  • Good site for support and awareness information but be make sure to look for a source of the medical information
