Menopause
The National Institutes of Health: Women's Health Initiative (WHI)
Established in 1991, this 15-year clinical study focuses on the effects of hormone
replacement therapy (HRT), diet, and calcium and vitamin D supplements on heart
disease, breast and colorectal cancer, and osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
This Web site provides an overview on the program, plus updates and mid-study
observations. It includes a discussion of the July 2002 decision for the early
stopping of the Estrogen plus Progestin portion of the trial.

North American Menopause Society (NAMS)
The North American Menopause Society is a non-profit professional organization
for health care practitioners, psychologists, and social scientists. Their Web
site provides accurate, unbiased, current information about all aspects of perimenopause
and menopause. Users will find a core curriculum study guide, patient education
materials, scientific news, meeting abstracts, and continuing education opportunities
there. The interdisciplinary scope of the resources makes them valuable for
scholars in many fields and interesting for lay users as well.

This site full of flashy graphics calls itself a "warm and caring community
for women in menopause." It features interactive chats, medical consultants,
and guest conferences with women's health experts such as Dr. Susan Love and
Gail Sheehy. Transcripts of previous conferences are archived. There are articles
in the reading room and FAQs as well as links to other women's health sites.
Advertising is discrete and sometimes woven into the answers to questions.

The Women's Health Center in Connecticut and the editors of Prevention Magazine
want to provide women with up-to-date, easy to use information about menopause
or perimenopause. Find information on health resources, menopause problems,
treatments, vitamins, herbal remedies, etc. Take a health test, or link to a
