Allergy Society of South Africa (ALLSA)

This peer-reviewed site has allergy and immunology information for health care professionals and patients. Patients can find information on asthma, allergic conditions, and diagnostic tests; information handouts and brochures; and resources in South Africa. They can also listen to different chest sounds (RealAudio). For medical professionals, there is an allergen database and a full-text allergy handbook. There is also a Kids Corner with cartoons. The site is searchable.

American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology

The AAAAI Web site provides the latest information and innovations about allergies and asthma. Information on allergy specialists, diagnosis and treatment, and support organizations are available in the patient/public resource center menu.

Asthma

Information about the mechanisms of and treatments for this chronic lung condition is augmented by links to lesson plans and games for use by teachers of both primary and secondary grades, guidance for school personnel who must respond to the physical and emotional needs of children with chronic lung disease, tips on coping with exercise-induced asthma, and details about ongoing research in the fields of pulmonology and pharmacology. This site contains sections on diseases, triggers, drug therapy, allergy shots, doctor information, resources, and pollen counts in the U.S. Forms can be printed out to give to the teacher or babysitter of an asthmatic child. Sign up for free membership to get access to an asthma diary, allergy alerts, an e-mail newsletter, and bulletin boards. Information on common sources and health effects of indoor air pollution in homes, schools, and offices.
