Drug Information
MedlinePlus provides drug information from two different sources: USP
DI Advice for the Patient from the United States Pharmacopeia at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginformation.html
and MedMaster from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginformation.html
See the following Web sites for additional drug identifier and drug interaction databases.
Drugs.com
This Web site has a Pill Identifier database, that lets the user search three
ways: form/shape of the pill, imprint code on the pill, and drug name. The Image
Search database allows the user to input the brand name or generic drug name,
and the search results screen provides images of the pills. The Drug Interactions
database allows the user to list each of their medications and check for a possible
drug interaction. http://drugs.com/
RxList
Use the Basic Search to search for a drug name. Use the Advanced Search to look
for drug names, keywords, imprint codes, NDC, and medical terminology from a
single page. This Web site also contains Taber's Medical Encyclopedia, and a
Medical Abbreviations Finder database. http://www.rxlist.com
National Drug Code
Directory
The National Drug Code System was originally established as an essential part
of an out-of-hospital drug reimbursement program under Medicare. The NDC serves
as a universal product identifier for human drugs. The directory consists of
prescription and selected over-the-counter, insulin, domestic and foreign drug
products that are in commercial distribution in the United States. http://www.fda.gov/cder/ndc/database/default.htm
MediResource Drug Library
The Prescription Drug Library is a database that contains easy-to-use information
on Canadian prescription drugs. Find out about the following: how your medication
works, the right way to take it, when you shouldn't take it, possible side effects,
what drugs shouldn't be taken together and more. http://www.mediresource.com/e/health/drug.asp
